Supported Inventory "Types"

Both tagged and homogeneous inventory types are supported. In fact, you can even set up some of your inventory categories as tagged and others as homogeneous.

Tagged Inventory
Tagged inventory is used when material must be tagged with an identifying number. Typically, inventory is tagged when traceability is a major concern.

For tagged inventory, the following standard information is tracked:

  • Warehouse
  • P.O.#
  • Vendor
  • Date Received
  • Heat #
  • Total Footage (applies to random length items)
  • Piece Count
  • Width/Length
  • Net Weight
  • Thickness
  • Cost (material, freight, and 6 additional, user-defined costs are tracked)

In addition to the standard information listed above, you can track information unique to your business in "user-defined" fields. These fields add flexibility to the inventory control system assisting you in the tracking of information such as:

  • Country of Origin
  • Mill
  • Condition
  • Rockwell/Olsen
  • Color

Homogeneous Inventory
While not as powerful as tagged inventory, homogenous inventory has its own advantages. The key advantage of homogeneous inventory is its simpler, more streamlined user interface. For example, when receiving homogeneous inventory, an operator simply indicates the quantity received. Tag numbers are not assigned, printed, etc. Likewise, when shipping homogeneous inventory, the operator simply indicates the quantity shipped. It is not necessary to identify the specific tag number(s) that were shipped.

You can think of homogeneous inventory as a big melting pot. When inventory is received, quantity is simply added to the pot. Because the inventory item is homogeneous, this new inventory loses its unique identity (e.g., vendor, purchase order, date received, heat number, etc.) as soon as it is received.

Supported Inventory "Forms"
The following forms of inventory are supported:

  • Length items including beam, angle, channel, bar, tube, & pipe
  • Area items including plate & sheet
  • Widget items including nuts, bolts, flanges, valves & fittings
  • Weight-only items including castings, billets, & scrap
  • Coil items (sheet, plate, and wire)

Remnant Tracking
Homogeneous inventory items track an unlimited number of standard sizes and a lump sum quantity for remnants. For example:

Product: 1 x 1 x 1/8" A36 ANGLE

Quantity

20'

  112 PCS

40'

  75 PCS

Remnants:

You also have the ability to track complete remnant detail with both homogenous and tagged inventory. Both types also support an unlimited number of standard sizes. For example:
